Here’s some very TMI facts about me! (You clicked on this page, you asked for it)

I hate showering because once I’m in there, I never want to leave and become a 5 ft. raisin.

I have a very useless talent of binge watching TV shows. Some examples: 700 episodes of Naruto in 2 months, all 10 seasons of FRIENDS in 10 days, all 9 seasons of How I Met Your Mother in a week. It was easy.

I’m not very good at Karaoke, but I like to shed a few tears and scream my heart out about heartbreak that I’ve never experienced.

I like to drive without a destination sometimes. Another thing to note, I am directionally challenged.

I guess I waste a lot of money on gas.

I can eat a whole box of OREO cookies in one sitting.

I have an interesting name.

Thanks for scrolling down! Now to introduce myself. My name is Yuri and here’s a few fun facts: if you google “Definition of Yuri”, here’s what shows up on the internet and what constantly showed up in my life.

Yuri meant:

“Glass” in Korean.
The first man to travel to space.
The commander in the game, “Call of Duty”.
The Protagonist ice skater in the anime “Yuri on Ice”.
The flower “Lily” in Japanese. Or my personal favorite, the Japanese genre for “lesbian love”.

Although they were very unique conversation starters, to no surprise, I also got teased a lot because of my name. There were times that I wished my parents just took 10 seconds to look up my name on the internet before making the final call. Or I wished they went with what they originally had planned to name me: Sarah. And my Korean name was supposed to be Ji-He, meaning “Wisdom” in Korean… yet they stuck with '“glass”. Can’t tell you what my parents were thinking haha. However, with every clique coming-of-age story, the main protagonist always discovers a huge revelation during the climax of the movie, and here was my revelation.

Yuri means:

Someone who isn’t afraid to fail in order to succeed. Someone who can be vulnerable and be an open book.
The first woman in my immigrant family to get a college degree in the States.
The Commander and leader of many organizations on and off campus.
The Tae-kwon-do martial artist, basketball, track, and volleyball player in elementary school to high school.
Someone that continues to grow and bloom in knowledge and creativity. Or my personal favorite, someone who chooses to love and respect everyone.

It took me a long time to figure out that for me, “Yuri” defined my own characteristics and accomplishments that I’ve made, not random definitions taken from Urban Dictionary. My goal is for others to see that as well. Currently, at the climax of my life, I have so many new things to learn and experience, and old things to move forward and improve from. So, I can’t wait to see more definitions of my name in the future and for even more people to recognize my name.

…Plus I have 5 friends named Sarah, so if I were a Sarah, this about page wouldn’t have been as interesting :)
